#003 - Bottle Cap Magnets

Wait, what happened to Project #002?

Well, I haven't started it yet, mostly because my mountains of spare cash need to be organized before I can even consider making a withdrawal.  So in the meantime...

Project #003!

There isn't much to say.  You might be able to figure out how these were created.  You can make your own.  They're useful; just don't stick them on your computer.

I made seven "6-pack" sets, each with a different theme.

Set 1:  Rik's Picks

I'm Rik, in case you were unsure.  That's not a typo either.  These are going on my refrigerator.

These caps are from six of my favorite American breweries:  Bell's Brewery, North Coast Brewing Co., Stone Brewing Co., Left Hand Brewing Co., Odell Brewing Co., and SKA Brewing Co.

Set 2:  Schlafly Set

Six magnets featuring--you guessed it--Schlafly Beer!  Schlafly is a brewery from St. Louis, Missouri, and it's big enough to ensure that most bars will at least carry one or two of their offerings, even if they're not big on craft beer.

I don't know what to do with these.  Want them?

Set 3:  Animal Friends

I don't have many friends that are classified as "human", so this Animal Friends set is about as close to a party as I have experienced so far.

The caps are from Goose Island, Shiner Bock, and Hitachino.

As much as these friends are dear to me, I'm already tired of hanging out with them.  Anybody looking for six new friends?  Gone!

Set 4:  New Belgium Set

Six caps from New Belgium Brewing, two of which are wintery Snow Day caps!

These are up for grabs, as well.  Gone!

Set 5:  Euro-Legends

Three German breweries and three Belgian breweries are featured in the Euro-Legends set.  All are worth checking out if you get the chance.

Belgian:  Affligem, Chimay, Hoegaarden (pronounced WHO-garden, by the way)

German:  Hofbrau, Ayinger, Tucher

Ask and ye shall receive.

Set 6:  O'Fallon Set

St. Louis is in the middle of a craft beer revolution, and it seems that every other week a new brewery pops up downtown.  However, out in the burbs, O'Fallon brewery is holding it down with a solid lineup of their own craft offerings.

Six identical O'Fallon cap magnets so you can rep O'Fallon, Missouri and its brewery.  Just ask.

Set 7:  Quiz Set

Oops!  These caps don't have names on them!  How on Earth are we supposed to know what breweries these are from?

The Quiz Set is a challenge for those who consider themselves craft beer enthusiasts.

The first to identify the six breweries represented here in a comment below gets the set.

Project #002 Decided!

Many new ideas have come to mind lately, but one just seems too good to pass on.  I'm going to have to sink more into materials costs on this one, but the end product will be something I can use for a long time.  I'm not going to give away the project yet, but I'll give you a clue for now:

It's heavy duty yet should be handled with care.

Also, I think I'm going to somehow work beer into this one. The finished project, that is. Not just me drinking beer while I make it. I might do that, too, but that's not what I'm trying to say right now.

#001: Deathly Hallows Jewelry Box

"Deathly Hallows Jewelry Box" -- Created February 2012 -- Status:  Gifted

It's a small jewelry box with a hidden compartment!  Harry Potter fans will identify the film's influence on this piece's design.  Those who unlock its SECRETS are granted access to a super secret compartment.

This container was built using oak hardwood and plywood, stained in dark ebony and a lighter "Harvest Oak". I was hoping for a very natural look, and the stain combo reminds me of dark tree bark and exposed wood.

I'm a new fan of stains.  They really bring out the natural beauty of the wood grain, and provide for more variation within the piece.  I also realized how much I am in need of precision cutting tools.  A lumber handsaw is the wrong tool for precision cutting...

If you're here and not me, then I'm assuming I know you.  If you want a customized box, let me know.  We can do a similar design with a new top, or something totally different.
